Irrigated Upper Amazon cacao in the Lower Shire Valley of Malawi. II-A water rates trial
Three different irrigation factors of 0·6, 0·8 and l·0 of the evaporation from a Kenya type pan, together with two irrigation deficits of 5·2 cm and 10·4cm, were compared in a factorial trial on Upper Amazon cacao. The 0·8 factor gave the highest yield of both pods and wet beans, but the differences were not significant. Irrigation at a deficit of 5·2cm significantly increased the yield of wet beans compared with the 10·4cm treatment. The periodicity of the harvest built up to a maximum in March during both seasons, but was not affected by any of the treatments.
