Genetic variability, correlation and path analysis studies in horse gram (Dolichos biflorus L.)
Genetic coefficients of variability, heritability estimates, genetic advance, correlation coefficients and path coefficients were estimated for nine different characters for 45 varieties of horse gram. Pods per plant, seed size and seed yield showed higher genetic gain values associated with higher heritability estimates. Positive and highly significant correlations of seed yield with pods per plant, seed size pod length plant height and number of branches were observed. Correlation of days to flowering and days to maturity with yield was negative. Path analysis showed that pods per plant had a high positive direct as well as an indirect effect on yield. Based on these studies, it is suggested that pods per plant should be a criterion for selection of a high yielding plant type in horse gram.
