Mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus and certain Streptococcus species in five dairy cattle herds in Trinidad, W.I.
and
A survey of selected causative organisms of bacterial mastitis in Zebu-Holstein dairy cows on five farms in Trinidad was carried out. Pathogens were found to be present in 34 per cent of udder quarters and infection in 16 per cent of quarters. The main pathogenic organisms isolated from the quarters were Staphylococcus aureus (42 per cent of isolations), Streptococcus agalactiae (20 per cent of isolations) and Streptococcus uberis (34 per cent of isolations). The survey showed also that the presence of micrococci in the udder quarters may inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria.
