Effect of air movement and type of slotted floor on sprinkled pigs
Pigs under a natural temperature cycle with a mean of about 23 °C were sprinkled for one minute at hourly intervals when the temperature was above 24°C. Increasing air velocity from 0·13 to 0·47 or 1·02 m/s did not result in any significant change in feed intake, rate of gain, or feed conversion. The air velocity treatments were conducted on three types of slotted floors - concrete aluminium, and rigid plastic - but the floors themselves had no significant, effect on performance of the pigs.
