Micronutrient cation status of some lowland soils used for rice production in Sierra Leone
Available micronutrient cations were measured in soil samples taken from various agro-ecological zone in Sierra Leone. The HCl method of analysis gave higher average values than the DTPA method for all the micronutrients studied except extractable Fe. Organic carbon increased significantly with extractable Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe as determined by the HCl method, but corresponding regression with the DTPA method do not reach the five per cent level of significance. It seems likely that excess Fe in lowland soil in Sierra Leone may be associated with Zn deficiency in rice.
