Genetic differences in milk yield of home-bred and imported Ayrshire cattle in Sri Lanka
The milk records of Ayrshire cattle bred in Sri Lanka and Ayrshires imported from Australia were compared. The mean milk yield of the imported animals was superior to home-bred animals by 367 kg. The milk records of the progenies of both groups of females sired by the same bulls were also compared. The progeny of homebred dams had significantly higher milk yields than those from imported dams. It is concluded that homebred animals are genetically superior to imported animals by 306 kg.
