Deep loosening and mole drainage on clay soils
Deep loosening operations and perhaps mole drainage in the future do have an important part to play in the management of some clay soils in the tropics. Success and useful responses will only be achieved however, by paying careful attention to: (i) the situations and structural stability of the soils where they are used, (ii) ensuring the required type of soil disturbance is obtained, and (iii) subsequent management to avoid rapid recompaction, or collapse of the mole channel.
