Effect of lime on exchangeable aluminium, nodulation and yield of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) in an acid Oxisol
A pot-culture experiment was conducted with an acid soil of pH 4.2 to study the impact of liming with CaCO3 at rates equivalent to 0. 1250. 1723 and 2250 kg ha-1 on peanut. The results showed that the addition of lime equivalent to 1723 kg ha-1 neutralized the soil exchangeable Al, which was originally present in toxic quantity, and significantly increased the nodulation and yields of pods, kernels and haulms of peanut. Liming to increase the soil pH to neutrality with 2250 kg ha-1 of CaC03 was harmful rather than beneficial.
