A system of crop and soil management for the wet season production of food crops on a heavy clay soil in Guyana: 2. Effect of mulching and tillage on germination, growth, nutrient uptake and yield
The effects of tillage and the application of vegetative mulch to a heavy clay soil in the minor and major wet seasons were studied. Mulching in the minor wet season increased germination, growth. N and P uptake in cowpeas. Mulch applied in the major wet season decreased germination, growth and cob yield in maize, with tillage having little effect.
