Response of date fruit to gibberellic acid application during slow period of fruit development
Gibberellic acid (GA3) at 50, 100 and 150 ppm concentrations was applied to the fruit bunches of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) cvs Zahdi and Sayer during the slow period of fruit development and ? 12-14 weeks after full bloom and pollination. No marked improvement in length, diameter, weight, volume or pulp weight of fruit of both cultivars was obtained by the application of GA3 except for cv Zahdi at 150 ppm. Various concentrations of GA3 had inconsistent influence on moisture content. There was no pronounced influence of GA3 on total soluble solid contents; total and reducing sugars particularly in cv Zahdi were higher at 50 and 100 ppm treatments as compared with control.
