Studies on gummy stem blight disease of cucurbits in Trinidad
and
Gummy stem blight disease, causal agent Didymella bryoniae (Auersw.) Rehm. (conidial state: Ascochyta melonis Potebnia) is reported on cucurbits in Trinidad. Host-range of the pathogen, as confirmed by pathogenicity tests, includes watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Mansf.), melon (Cucumis melo L.), pumpkin and squash (Cucurbita L.), cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), christophine (Sechium edule (Jacq.) Swartz), bitter gourd (Momordica cbarantia L.), smooth loofah (Luffa cylindrica (L.) M.J. Roem.) and angled loofah (L. acutangula (L.) Roxb.). A brief description of disease symptoms is given along with loss estimates of 10-100% and 16-100% for watermelon and pumpkin, respectively.
