Influence of post-ringing period on cofactor activity and total phenol content in ringed shoot cuttings of cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.)
, , , and
The cofactor activity and total phenol content were analysed in ringed cashew shoot cuttings obtained from 4-year-old plants after 0, 45, 90 and 180 days. The cuttings at 180 days post-ringing, which rooted best, were found to show higher cofactor activity (especially at Rf 0.1, 0.3 and 0.8) and total phenol content in basal tissue extracts. At the root-initiation stage, there was a considerable decline in the cofactor activity and total phenol content in ringed cuttings at 90 days post-ringing. This was attributed to their utilization in the process of root initiation.
