Effect of plant density on yield and yield components of jute (Corchorus capsularis L.) in the southern Guinea savanna zone of Nigeria
Field experiments were conducted at Mokwa, Nigeria, in 1979-1981 to study the effect of inter- and intra-row spacings on yield and yield components of jute. The use of 25 × 10 cm spacing increased jute fibre yield and yield components such as plant height and butt diameter. A spacing of 50 × 20 cm was found to increase seed yield and the yield components, number of capsules plant-2 and number of branches m-2. Interaction between inter- and intra-row spacings was significant for all parameters except number of seeds capsule-1.
