Evaluation of symbiotic effectiveness of elite and wild strains of Bradyrhizobium on cultivars of Voandzeia subterranea (L.) Thouars
Nodulation, shoot dry weight and shoot nitrogen accumulation were used to evaluate the symbiotic effectiveness of six elite and 13 West African wild strains of rhizobia with two cultivars of bambara groundnut, Voandzeia subterranea (L.) Thouars. All but one of the six elite strains from NifTAL have effective nodulating potential as did two of the wild strains isolated from bambara groundnut and blackgram plants in Togo. Cultivar Ada was found to benefit more from inoculation than the Kara cultivar since TAL169, TAL1380, TAL309 and TAL642 treatments resulted in significantly more N accumulation than the mineral N control.
