Skype(TM) Conference Calls: A Way to Enhance Quality in the Teaching and Learning of Spanish as a Foreign Language in Higher Education
Yeferson Romana Correa
This paper presents the results of research into the teaching and learning of Spanish through the use of Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) tools, particularly Skype(TM) conference calls. This study was carried out with a group of 10 Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) A21 young adult learners in the Modern Languages and Literatures Department of The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. This research was structured and carried out as qualitative action research. The main findings suggest that Skype(TM) conference calls might play a significant role in the promotion of oral language skills from out-of-class learning environments and intercultural exchange practices in the teaching and learning of Spanish.
