Abstract

This short historical note comprises two recollections of the late Emeritus Professor Harry Phelps (1929 - 2018). Specifically, the author, as a narrator, presents the said two recollections to show the impact of Professor Phelps’ childhood, and of a knowledge-based error in engineering design, on his career path as well as an engineering work on society. It is hoped that these recollections will add to the historical records of The University of the West Indies (UWI), and equally convey some reflections on life and society.
