Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in 2018 and repeated in 2019 to investigate the impact of complementary application of poultry manure and NPK fertiliser on insect pest populations and damage to cucumber crops. The study used a 4x4 factorial design with four levels of poultry manure (0, 5, 10, 15 t ha-1) and four levels of NPK fertiliser (0, 100, 200, 300 kg ha-1) arranged in a randomised complete block design with three replicates. Data were collected on insect pest density, damage to leaves and fruits, as well as cucumber growth and fruit yield. The study showed that increasing the rate of poultry manure reduced insect pest infestation and damage, while increasing the rate of NPK fertiliser increased infestation. The highest fruit yield and lowest insect pest infestation were observed in plots with 15 t ha-1 poultry manure and 200 kg ha-1 NPK fertiliser. Thus, this combination was concluded to be the most favourable treatment.
