Abstract

Potassium at 20 ppm improved the growth and nodulation of chick pea (Cicer arietinum L.) at two levels of salinity (4.34 and 8.30 dS m-1). However, plant performance was not equal to that of the nonsaline control even at 40 ppm K Potassium had no beneficial effect on nitrogenase activity and % N in roots and shoots. The Na:K ratio in the plant was reduced by an application of 20 ppm K at 8.30 dS m-1. The uptake of P was not significantly improved by an external application of K.
