Web blight of cowpea: occurrence and distribution in Trinidad

Aetiological studies confirmed that a new disease of vegetable cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp, observed in 1985 in Trinidad, was web blight caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani Kiihn lanamc of Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) Donk). Web blight was widespread in its distribution in Trini and was observed on all locally grown cultivars of cowpea. The implications of the findings to crop] practices in Trinidad are discussed.
