Abstract
The experienced tractor operators in 11 agricultural establishments in Nigeria were surveyed. Their anthropometric data were measured, and their views on the suitability of their tractors were sought. The results of the survey showed that the typical Nigerian experienced operator in an agricultural establishment is 34 years old, male, 172 cm tall, and weighing 66 kg. He has been driving tractors for at least 10 years. The major complaints of the operators were leg pains and backaches (which were strongly suspected to be caused by unsuitable seat designs and (or) adjustments]; and the absence of roll-over protective structures (ROPS) or any form of cab.
