Co-operative investigations on field screening of 1500 accessions of Spanish (Arachis hypogaea L. ssp. fastigiata Waldron var. vulgaris Harz) and 420 accessions of Valencia (A. hypogaea ssp. fastigiata var. fastigiata) peanut were conducted over three winter/summer seasons at four locations for identification of genotypes tolerant to cold temperature. The sampled gene pool of bunch peanuts showed genetic differences for daY.S to seedling emergence, seeding emergence percentage, days to flower and maturity and pod yield plant-, but no accession which could germinate normally at low temperature in December, flower between 35-40 days and mature within 100-110 days could be spotted. The field planting in winter appeared an adequate screening test of a large varietal collection of peanut for the identification of cold tolerant genotypes; and days to seedling
