Abstract

The performances of three rice varieties, Jaya Pusa 2-21 and Ratna, with respect to grain and milling quantity under various harvest times and storage conditions were studied. Harvesting of crops 32 days after flowering resulted in the highest head yield. The storage duration and condition did not affect the protein content of the grain. Greater grain hardness was obtained when paddy was stored in metal drums than when stored in bamboo mud-plastered bins or gunny bags. Total mill yield remained unaffected by storage duration and conditions. Head yield improved with the increase in duration of storage. A more rapid fall in seed viability in terms of germination percentage was noticed under storage in gunny bags than in the other two.
