Abstract

The pattern of utilization of the African giant land snail Archachatina marginata amoung the people living in the humid area of Nigeria was investigated. The results revealed that the snails were important not only as a source of animal protein to the population but also an important ingredient in their traditional medicine. The shells are also sued for decoration in homes, ash trays in hotels and abrasive for washing utensils and assumes a cultural significance.
