Abstract

Heavy alkylate, a paraffinic oil obtained during the refining of petroleum, showed no phytotoxicity to several species of plant when applied by a gravity-fed, engine-powered ultra low volume(ULV) sprayer. Formulations of fungicides in heavy alkylate controlled fungal leaf diseases of tomato and citrus as effectively as commercial ULV formulations. The amount of copper recovered from tomato leaves sprayed with a proprietary cupric hydroxide fungicide (Kocide 101) suspended in heavy alkylate was four times that recovered from leaves sprayed with cupric hydroxide by motorized mistblower and approximately the same as that recovered from leaves sprayed with commercial ULV formulations.
