Abstract

Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus and Helicotylenchus were the main genera extracted from soils sampled from the root zone of tobacco, maize and groundnuts. Populations were generally low and probably only Meloidogyne on tobacco was causing significant damage. Reproduction of Meloidogyne was observed on maize. Some of the six most widely grown maize varieties in Malawi may be heterozygous for resistance to M. javanica.
