Abstract

In a number of fertilizer trials conducted on soils of the Dala Series, mean yield responses of up to 76 per cent were obtained by applications of potassium to chillies, 86 per cent with sweet potatoes and 50 per cent with taro. In the case of ginger, applications of nitrogen and potassium increased the yield by 17 per cent over the mean yield. With maize the potassium treatments produced an average increase of 41 per cent over the mean yield, and with turmeric an increase of 16 per cent. The level of soil potassium limits crop production on these soils, and this deficiency must be corrected before other deficiencies can be identified.
