Abstract

Urea adsorption studies were conducted on ten soils of Trinidad. The adsorption data fitted the Langmuir adsorption equation very satisfactorily. The bonding energy of the urea adsorption by the soils did not differ significantly among the soils, suggesting that the same type of sites was primarily responsible for urea adsorption in all the soils examined. Strong positive correlation of organic matter content with the maximum adsorption capacity for urea showed that these sites existed in the organic matter fraction. Some of the urea adsorbed by the soils was held very strongly, probably as stable organic matter-urea complexes.
