Abstract
Results are presented of fourteen fertilizer trials conducted on tung (Aleurites montana) in Malawi. There was a consistent response to 0·25-0·30kg nitrogen per tree applied as a top dressing in the form of ammonium sulphate at the end of the dry season. Tung cake was shown to be a useful nitrogenous fertilizer and could replace ammonium sulphate. No other fertilizers showed any consistent effect on either yield or oil quality. Oil quality was related more to clones than to fertilizer dressings.
