Abstract
Loss of dry matter due to respiration in Roselle was estimated by determining dark reparation from measured changes in dry weight overnight. Forty to 43 per cent of the net daytime gain in dry weight was lost at night due to dark respiration whereas 91 to 92 per cent was lost in the 24h period. Total respiration as a percentage of gross photosynthesis was between 61 and 81 per cent, depending on the magnitude of loss due to photorespiration.
