Abstract
A successful method of cashew propagation by cuttings is reported. Cuttings 0·5 lo 1·0 cm in diameter, of semi-mature stem or lateral branches about 15em long and carrying all or part of their leaves, were split at the basal end before dipping in one per cent IBA in talcum powder and inserting in perlite or a 1: 1 mixture of perlite and coarse sand with the lowest leaf exposed. A closed transparent plastic container was used to maintain the relative humidity at 90 to 100 per cent. Temperatures were 25 to 28° by day and 15°C at night and shade was used to exclude direct sunlight. Eighty three per cent of the cutting in pure perlite, but only 25 per cent in the perlite and sand mixture, had sprouted and rooted in six weeks after planting.
