Abstract

Good quality bananas can be produced in the Sudan, but owing to the system of handling fruits very high post-harvest wastages occur and quality on the local market is poor. Investigations into field dehanding of bananas, wrapping and fungicidal treatments to reduce wastage are described. The most successful method under Sudanese conditions was field dehanding combined with placing hand in polyethylene film bags for transport.
