In a study of factors affecting soil erosion within a tea estate, using an experi-mental design to give quantitative information on run-off and soil erosion, it was found that within a given field of tea with a uniform slope of ten per cent, rainfall intensity, run-off and percentage ground cover were the major factors affecting soil erosion. Multiple regression and correlation analyses showed that these three factors accounted for as much as 86 per cent of the variability in soil erosion. There was no soil erosion when the ground cover provided by the tea canopy exceeded 65 per cent.
