The ammonium-nitrogen contents of some tropical soil were determined by four different methods one of which was a modification of the Nessler method to include calcium, magnesium and potassium both in the oil extracts and standards with a view to correcting interference by these cations. Addition of these cations resulted in more accurate figures for ammonium-nitrogen.
