Abstract

A pot culture experiment was conducted to study the interactive effect of fluorine (0 to 100 p.p.m.) and salt (0 to 50 mequiv./litre) on germination, growth and nodulation of berseem. Fluorine and salt contents of irrigation water acted additively to affect adversely the germination, growth and nodulation. The critical all tolerance limit of the crop was found to be lowered progressively by increasing fluorine content in the irrigation water. However, up to 10 p.p.m. fluorine content there was no significant effect on growth or nodulation. The inhibitory level of salinity and fluorine content for effective nodulation was found to be much lower than that for crop growth.
