A simple, rapid and accurate method is described which may be used for measuring leaf area non-destructively but also enable the area of individual leaves to be reduced quantitatively by removing part of the lamina distal to the leaf petiole. The method may be used with leaves which are regular in shape although they can also be asymmetrical.
