Abstract
In order to investigate the use of part lactation record in the Awassi sheep of Turkey the record of 261 first lactation ewes were analysed. The correlation between part lactation yields and total yields ranged between 0·71 ± 0·04 and 0·82 ± 0·04 for yield in the first and fourth months and between 0·71 ± 0·04 and 0·94 ± 0·02 for yields in the first 30 and 120 days. To estimate total lactation yields from part lactation yields, both linear regression equations and ratio factors were used. In order to determine the possibilities of using part lactation record in progeny testing, rank correlation coefficients were calculated between the index of rams (which was predicted by using estimated yields) and true yields. All the correlations were highly significant.
