Abstract

Polyethylene wraps and polyethylene plus wax coating reduced weight loss of 'Lacatan' bananas (Musa sp.) in storage while maintaining quality. Both treatments reduced fruit decay, but coated fruit ripened less uniformly than wrapped fruit. Fruit in the polyethylene wrap in commercial trials had more latex staining and less mechanical injury than naked-pack fruit.
