Abstract

Results are presented of greenhouse screening of disease resistant cowpea germplasm for resistance to a Nigerian isolate of cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus (CAMV). Fifty two lines were immune, six tolerant and the remainder either gave mixed reactions or were susceptible; none possessed hypersensitive resistance. These results are discussed in relation to those obtained elsewhere and sources of resistance to different strains of CAMV are so identified. Some of the resistant lines also possess resistance to isolates of southern bean mosaic and cowpea (yellow) mosaic viruses.
