Abstract

Growth and metabolism studies measured the response of pigs to diets con-taining varying levels of full-fat groundnuts, raw or roasted, replacing in part both soya bean meal and maize. Our data suggest that growing pig can efficiently utilize up to 20 per cent groundnuts in diets adequately adjusted for energy:lysine ratio. Similar results were obtained without adjusting the energy:lysine ratio but with fortification in moderate excess of groundnut diets with lysine. Roasting groundnut at 120°C for one hour was not found to be beneficial to our pigs.
