Abstract

A survey of nodulation was made among 39 legume species, i.e. 16 species of Mimosaceae, 9 of Caesalpiniaceae and 14 of Papilionaceae. Nodulation was observed in all but three specie (Cassia fistula, C. holosericea and C. siamea) of Caesalpiniaceae. All attempts to produce nodules in these species by means of inoculation failed, though the plants flourished well. It is thought that these non-nodulated species have some alternative source of nitrogen. Nodulation is reported for the first time in ten of the legume species. A previous report of nodulation in Adenanthera pavonina and Delonix regia from Singapore is confirmed.
