Abstract

One disadvantage of treatment of crop residues with ammonia to improve their feed vale has been the slow reaction between ammonia and the lignocellulosic material. Thermo-ammoniation appears to be a possible process for overcoming this deficiency. The reaction rate increased by such processing, and greater values of crude protein content in vitro dry matter digestibility were obtained when maize stover of high moisture content was thermos-ammoniated.
