Abstract
A field experiment with four varieties of groundnut (TGS 1, TKG 19A, TG 22 and ICGS 49) and three levels of gypsum (0, 200 and 400 kg/ha) was conducted in the Central Research Farm, Gayeshpur, Nadia, West Bengal, India during rainy season of 2001 and 2002. The experiment was conducted as a factorial randomized block design with three replications. The crop received 20 kg N, 60 kg P205 and 40 kg K20/ha, was sown during mid- July and was harvested during middle of November in both years. ICGS 49 variety of groundnut recorded highest oil content among different varieties tested and it was statistically at par with TG 22 and TKG 19A. But different varieties did not show any significant differences for percent protein content. Oil yield was also significantly higher in ICGS 49. Application of gypsum up to 400 kg/ha significantly increased oil content, protein content as well as oil yield irrespective of the varieties. Percentage content of stearic acid and bethnic acid were significantly higher in ICGS 49 whereas higher contents of oleic acid and arachidic acid were found in TG 22. Palmitic acid and linoleic acid contents were maximal in TKG 19A and TGS 1 respectively. Fatty acid compositions of palmitic acid and linoleic acid content decreased with increased application of gypsum whereas those of other acids increased significantly with increment in the dose of gypsum applied.The interaction effects between varieties and gypsum levels on oil content,oil yield and fatty acid composition were not significant.
