Abstract

Ten different accessions of Jatropha curcas L. from different parts of the country were evaluated for germination and other related parameters viz., germination percentage, germination value, germination energy index, germination velocity index, vigour index, germination capacity, germination energy, germination rate and first leaf initiation. The seedlings were also evaluated for growth parameters such as plant height and collar diameter to find out the variability among the accessions. Considerable genetic variability was observed among the accessions for germination and other related parameters. The higher values for these parameters indicated more vigorous seed lots of Jatropha curcas L. Significant variation was also recorded among the accessions for growth characters. It is concluded that the accessions showing high percent germination or capacity and related parameters also exhibited good growth performance.
