Abstract
The farm and home management extension (FHME) methodology was conceptualized after reviewing the performances of a number of approaches which were practised in the Eastern Caribbean. It was then field-tested in seven agricultural districts in the Windward and Leeward islands. There were 190 collaborating farm families and 56 extension officers. The results of the tests show that through the FHME approach, extension became more focussed and many operational linkages with farmers, researchers, and other supporting agencies (marketing, credit, other agricultural research institutions, academic institutions as well as local agricultural stations) were established.
