Sensitivity of aeciospores and uredospores of the pea rust pathogen to selected systemic fungicides

Abstract


An evaluation was made of the sensitivities of aeciospores and uredospores of Uromyces viciae-fabae, an incitant of pea rust, to 10 systemic fungicides (benomyl, bitertanol, carbendazim, dinobuton, flutriafol, hexaconazole, myclobutanil, thiabendazole, thiophanate-methyl, and triadimefon). Aeciospores were found to be most sensitive to thiabendazole, followed by benomyl, carbendazim, and thiophanate-methyl, and least to bitertanol; uredospores showed most sensitivity to triadimefon, dinobuton, and myclobutanil and least to bitertanol. Both types of spore showed similar trends in their sensitivities to the fungicides tested except to flutriafol where a reverse trend in sensitivity was observed. Differences in sensitivity of these types of spore to fungicides was attributed to differences in their morphology and longevity.
