Isolation and properties of Orobanche crenata germination stimulants from the root extracts of Vicia faba

AbstractEthereal extractives from Vicia faba roots were fractionated repeatedly by thin layer chromatography. At least three zones from the chromatograms showed activity as germination stimulants for Orobanche crenata. These active substances were not clearly identified. They were characterized by selected chemical tests and by their UV /VIS and infrared spectra and seemed to be carbonyl compounds.
