Abstract

Electrophoretic analysis of lsozymes of PGI (EC 5.3.1.9) and PGM (EC 2.7.5.1) in Desmodium was used to demonstrate the presence of D. sandwicense alleles in cv. 'Greenleaf' of D. intorum. The frequency of D. sandwicense alleles was higher in samples from one area of Australia than in samples from another area. It was concluded that natural selection against these D. sandwicense alleles occurred in the second area, whereas genetic drift was negligible in the first.
