Erosion studies carried out on a 4° pediment slope in Nigeria under natural and artificial rainfall conditions showed that soil loss was often much greater than the accepted erosion rate of 1.05 kg m-2. Treecovered areas were highly susceptible to erosion contrary to the popular belief that trees help to reduce erosion.
