Abstract
About 65 lines, in eight species of vetch (Vicia L.) introduced from CSIRO, Australia, were evaluated in a nursery row plot at three research centres in Ethiopia in 1975/76. Later, in 1976/77 and in 1977/78, variety trials of vetches continued in row-plots in a randomized block design with three replications, with five species of vetch. Forage and seed samples as well as observations on frost tolerance, flowering, and regeneration from self-seeding were evaluated. Visual assessments were made in 1975/76. Seed yields were recorded for the 1976/77 season only. Forage yields were evaluated for the 1976/77 and 1977/78 seasons. Analysis of data for 1976/77 was undertaken as a split-plot analysis in a multivariate analysis of variance.
