Abstract

A glasshouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the comparative effects of dry- and wet-blended ZnS04 and ZnO with single superphosphate (SSP) and diammonium phsophate (DAP) on the yield of submerged paddy and residual Zn and P content in two types of soil. The blending of Zn and P fertilizers prior to application significantly increased grain and straw yield of paddy over the yield with separate application of both fertilizers in the soil. Wet blending gave higher yield but did not significantly differ from dry blending. The highest yield was obtained with wet-blended ZnSO4 + DAP, followed by wet-blended ZnSO4 + SSP and ZnO + SSP. The application of blended fertilizers also left greater residual amounts of available Zn and P in the soil. Higher residual levels of Zn and P were found with zincated SSP than with zincated DAP. Similar trends were observed in both sandy and loam soils except for higher yields in the latter.
